Mai HordernPHYSIOTHERAPIST / CLINICAL PILATES

    About Mai

After graduating from the University of Melbourne in 1996 with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy, Mai completed a Masters in Sports Physiotherapy and has worked in private practices across Melbourne and Geelong, gaining experience in treating a variety of musculoskeletal injuries. Mai has a special interest in upper limb injuries, lymphoedema management and clinial Pilates.

Mai was the Physiotherapist for the Australian Handball Team and travelled to Europe with the team for their World Cup and pre-Olympic campaign. Mai and her family are also keen sailors. Through treating the many shoulder injuries caused by handball and sailing, Mai developed a keen interest in the assessment and clinical management of the upper limb. She has completed Lyn Watson Level 1 and 2 Shoulder courses as well as the Fundamentals of Hand Therapy. Mai has many years experience in treating all types of shoulder injuries, including, but not limited to, post-surgical rehabilitation. She has also gained first-hand knowledge of the associated pain and disability when she dislocated her own shoulder in a mountain biking crash in 2018.

Mai is excited to add lymphoedema assessment and treatment to her range of skills which may benefit any conditions involving swelling due to injury, surgery, post-fracture immobilisation and CRPS. Mai really enjoys this gentle and nurturing, but effective treatment.

Mai and her family are all extremely active and she loves being part of the Surfcoast community which enables her to easily participate in her favourite activities including sailing, skiing, mountain biking and coffee.
